Guide: Wall of Blocks
This guide is for anyone who wants to leave a short, permanent message on a public wall. The Wall of Blocks at hartiilabs.com/wall is a grid of colored blocks. Each block holds a message and, if you like, a token to promote. People use it to say something or to point at a token.
What you need
- A Quai wallet: Pelagus on a computer or Blip on a phone, set to Quai Network.
- QUAI for the slot price shown on the page, plus network gas (the small fee every transaction pays to the network).
Steps
- Open the left menu, press More, and under Explore choose Wall of Blocks, or open hartiilabs.com/wall. At the top you see how many blocks exist, who opened the wall, and the next slot price in QUAI. Under it, Look up a block by tx, coordinate, or address finds one block.
- Scroll to Engrave the next block. It says what slot number you will get and its live price. You pay exactly the quoted price.
- If you are not connected, press Connect and approve in your wallet. On a phone without a wallet you are offered Open in Blip. On a computer you are offered Get Pelagus.
- Type your Message (the box asks "What is worth saying forever?"). A counter shows bytes used out of 280. Simple letters use one byte each. Emoji and some other characters use more.
- Choose a Block color. Click one of the swatches, or type a hex color such as #7c3aed in the box.
- Optional: under Token to promote (optional), pick a token or paste its address.
- Check Network fee (est.).
- Press Engrave for and the price. The button says Engraving… while it works. Confirm in your wallet.
What you will see
- A toast says "Engraving sent — confirming…".
- When done the card says Engraved. Forever. with your block number, a permalink and a link to the transaction on Quaiscan.
- Press Engrave another block to write a new one.
- Click any block in the grid to read its message and see who paid what. The Load more button shows older blocks. Permalink + provenance opens its own page.
After you engrave, you can open your block's page and set a look for it with Set on-chain style (animation, material, accent color). This is only offered to the wallet that engraved it.
Verify a record yourself
Since Labs 1.42.0 every record has a VERIFY action. Your browser reads the record again through the RPC endpoint you choose and checks, line by line: the network, the transaction and its receipt, the Engraved event, the stored message bytes, the signer, and that the block is on the chain with its confirmations. A check that cannot be read or does not match is shown as failed, never as passed. These checks compare RPC answers; they are not a light-client proof, so compare endpoints if you want more certainty.
Raw bytes shows the stored message as a hex dump, with the event topics and data, the transaction, the signer, gas and the block hash. Each field can be copied, or the whole record as JSON. You can search by transaction hash, block height or address, and filter by signer or block range.
Before you publish, the page shows the exact bytes and length that will be written and the live slot price plus network gas. Messages cannot be edited or deleted.
Fees and limits
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Message | up to 280 bytes, and not empty |
| Slot price | live price shown on the page |
| Price climb | each engraving raises the next slot by 5% of the wall's base price; a permanent rule nobody can change |
| Opening your own wall | a fee is shown under To open your own wall on the page |
| Network gas | extra |
The Upcoming slot prices row shows the next few prices.
Common mistakes
- Message too long or empty. The form says "Message is empty." or how many bytes you used. Shorten it.
- Not enough QUAI. The form says "Not enough QUAI" and shows what you have and what the slot costs.
- Someone took your slot first. The price moved up while you signed. The transaction fails and you are not charged the slot price, only gas. Check the new price and try again.
- Color rejected. It must be six hex digits like #7c3aed.
- Wrong network. Switch your wallet to Quai Network.
- Waiting a long time. Do not press Engrave again. Look up your wallet on quaiscan.io and read the receipt first.
